A €1 bus ride

Here we are on a bus setting off on the anticipated 25 minute trip from Biarritz to Bayonne at the unbelievable cost of €1 (80p) each. This fare lasts for 1 hour if you wish to stay on the bus for that length of time.

And here we are taking longer than anticipated, having been brought to a standstill by an accident prone car blocking the road, now in process of removal by the breakdown men!

And not much later here we are, where you might expect us to be in Bayonne, passing slowly by the shops in old Bayonne.
I thought it was very good of them to celebrate our arrival by hanging out the bunting!

Like many shops in France, here clothes are very expensive, for looking at really instead of buying. Take a fifth off the prices in this window, if you can see them by clicking on the picture, you will get the approximate cost in pounds. For example, the jeans on the right with the pink turn-ups are £100. The pale blue blouse laying partly across them is €216.

But for me, this was the more interesting place to shop,
Les Halles:

and what about this for a meat counter?

All this was down by the riverside, a very attractive part of town. The building with the red awning is where we ate a superb lunch of tapas with a half bottle of  Basque rosé. Its name, translated as the cork of a cider bottle and somewhat difficult to pronounce, is TXOTX.

And to let the lunch go down in quiet style we ended up in this lovely garden under blue skies and warm sunshine once again.
