You will not believe what we missed when we visited Stoke!

Just in case you have forgotten what summer looks like - this is it! At least it is Albert Slater's view as set in tiles at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery at Stoke-on-Trent.

In what I could only describe as an almost indescribable town centre, at least the bit we were in, the Potteries Museum and Art gallery is a fine building containing wonderful examples of the products of local potteries.

Here an example, the old woman who lived in a shoe who had so many children she didn't know what to do!
If your fancy is art you can look at some of Lowry's people, who seem to fit in with Stoke even though they were painted further north.
You will have to go there if you want to see more, or google The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Staffordshire and click on images for the potteries museum and art gallery page3. They even have a Spitfire exhibited in recognition of the designer Reginald Mitchell who was a born there. We didn't see it!
How can you miss an aeroplane?  We did!

This was part of a three day trip. We visited the National Memorial Arboretum, see previoius posting; also went to Wightwick Manor (pronounced Witwick locally in Wolverhampton). The outside is more interesting than the inside, which is somewhat gloomy because of its Victorian decor and probably explains why the Manders Paint makers gave it to the National Trust.

We stayed at the Moat House Acton Trussell, below, which I have referred to in previous blog postings.

Below is the more normal view for us!

And where we adopted a new member of the family.

Meet 'Huggie' !

No wonder we missed the Spitfire!!
