Canal of tranquility

Canals do not always run through sparkling countryside - after all they were designed for the transport of goods between towns. But even in unlikely places there are touches of colour that can surprise.

Click the picture and just look at the size of these marsh marigolds on the bank of the Oxford canal at Clifton upon Dunsmore on the edge of Rugby.

And here in this almost industrial run-off at the canal side there are surprises: a moorhen feeding her chick.  Only a mother could love something with such big feet!

Below the distant view of Rugby there is tranquility - even when you've missed the last train!

P.S. You are lucky that's all there is of this post - the camera battery expired. This last picture taken from Geograph by Andy F.
