Where did you get that shirt?

One of the joys of retirement is being able to meet with other retired colleagues - those that are left that is!
Today we went to Bibury in Gloucestershire to the Swan Hotel for lunch.  This is it on the right.

Bibury is reputed to be one of the most beautiful villages in England. People go there in their thousands to take photos of it. All they need do is look at the marvellous pictures on the internet. It is an improvement on standing in the street on a cold October day. Of course, if it's a nice day you can hide away while the others go wandering taking pictures.

Try it yourself: Google 'Bibury' and go to 'images for Bibury'.

And so we met in the bar of the Swan for the usual chatter before lunch.

What do you talk about?"
"The same things we talked about last time - and the time before; but it's a great pleasure seeing them again".

"Whatever happened to John Batman?"
"Last I heard he was running a brewery in Columbia. He upset someone here and it's where they sent people they'd had enough of ".

"What about Pat Felon?"
"I went to his funeral. Strange affair, he was buried in a wood - it was raining".

"Were you with us when Jack Cobbett was head brewer?"
"Before my time".
"No one was allowed to talk to him until 10 o'clock after he had studied form and laid his bets".

"Where did you get that shirt?"
"It's my patriotic shirt for watching the Ryder Cup on television".
"A bit bright".
"Shouldn't have worn it morning: caught a virus on holiday and had to keep jumping out of the car on the way here. Somewhat of a job trying to appear inconspicuous standing in the hedgerow with your back to the traffic!"

"You remember Teddy Holden don't you?"
"Very well. I proposed the health of the Midland Bottlers at their annual alcoholic lunch and went on too long. Teddy stood up and said:
Thank you Philip for proposing and responding to the toast!  He was a lovely man"

"Nice to see a log fire!"

"Spells the end of summer".
"A bit like us - into autumn - winter for some!"
"We had some good times though. See you next March all being well".
