I was quite surprised to find there are beaches to sit upon or sea to stand in, even in a heatwave, where there are not thousands of people.
Of course, it follows that other people are surprised to discover they can stand and stare at curiosities without being distracted by holiday hordes.
"What do you think that is?"
"Looks like a giant bottle with a message inside."
"Don't think so: looks more like a cannon from an old warship standing on end".
"Why would a warship be standing on end?"
"Never mind: lets go look at something else."
"What are those two doing standing by that boat?"
"Probably wondering what that crowd is doing on the end of the pier.
"Bit rude of them to stand there staring at other people."
"There's another one joined them. He's giving advice on how to remove or insert the mast into that boat."
"People do that don't they: stand staring at other people or turning up to give advice when it's not wanted."
"Shouldn't want to be doing what he's doing."
"What! sticking a mast in a boat?"
"No! skimming across the water on the end of that sail."
"Shouldn't worry about it too much:I don't think you have the figure for it!"
"That's more in your line; building sand castles."
"Typical isn't it? Brings the children to the seaside and then won't let them play with their buckets and spades because he wants to build sand castles."
"Big kid!"
"Reckon we have seen all there is to see here."
"Want an ice cream?"
"Of course: no point in coming to the seaside if you don't have an ice cream."
