Milton Keynes wildlife is more than night clubs!

Concrete cattle in a shopping centre.

If you have never been  to Milton Keynes, still you  may have heard of their herd of concrete cattle.

Many visit just for the shopping, people that is not cattle, and probably believe this is all there is.

If you have visited, your view may be something nearer to this aerial scene or the apartments below. By the way, did you discover the bicycles on the close-up of this silver coloured sculpture with which I ended yesterday's blog?

Cruising at three miles an hour along the 10 miles of Grand Union canal winding through Milton Keynes can open your eyes at what you see and even what you do not.

You may anticipate tall chimneys and buildings but,  in these four pictures, you have seen almost the worst of any development.

There are of course a few big bridges

but there are also the more usual traditional ones,

even if they do occasionally cause a hold-up.

The Grand Union is Milton Keynes' best kept secret.

These vistas are in the heart of the city

"Look out lads - another load that needs culling"

as are these Canada geese just watching the boat go by.

The canal has an unending panorama of water life, Moorhens being particularly common.

"Wait for us!"

And what about this enormous heron; unusual in that allowed us to draw so near.

At journey's end, outside The Red Lion in Fenny Stratford,
there is some doubt as to the amount of life in those who, like the geese, are content to watch life pass by.

Meadowlark turns for home with Carol (or Carole with an 'e') having done sterling work as our skipper.

O.K. So it's not quite 'walking to London', but it is not a bad way of covering a little of the distance!
