"Who's that?

That's Michael and Judith, Cheryl and Beryl, Chloe and Philip, Jack and Joan, Doreen and Alison  -
but not necessarily in that order.
And there were others who couldn't make it!

Chloe started it all by researching her family tree. That's Chloe on the left, granddaughter of Philip on the far right who has never, in sixty odd years of marriage, really understood who was who of the people he met over the years who somehow seemed to have a connection to his wife Doreen in spite of the fact that she was an orphan.

Doreen, fifth from the left, could be mistaken for believing  she was related to Michael on her right as they both have trees growing put of their heads! Michael's wife Judith is on Doreen's left.

Alison, seated on the right and mother to Chloe, was responsible for getting us all together. And what an achievement, because Cheryl, standing at the back between Philip and Judith, was a mine of information about the Webbs and the Dolans of whom her mother Beryl, third from left and her great aunt Joan, sat with Alison, were a part. Doreen was a Dolan adopted by the Webbs.

From being an orphan like this

to a wife like this

and a great grandmother like this

with nary an ancestor in sight

we meet for the first time her Dad's sister, her aunt Joan

and with some semblance of a likeness, cousin Beryl.

The great problem with researching families is that the female of the species marry, sometimes more often than once, and on the face of things are no longer Webbs or Dolans.  Their offspring may do likewise and give rise to even more complications. How does Wolnicki ever find a way back to Dolan?

There was much talk and looking at old photographs in equally old albums.
There were facts at variance with opinions and much that was left to be guessed at and pondered.
There were questions unanswered and, perhaps, occasionally avoided.
But, there was a warmth of togetherness and great happiness in discovering that an orphan had found the family she never knew existed.

I haven't mentioned grandson Jack yet, second left. University graduate, even he may be trying to fathom out which branch of the family tree he can call his own.
In years to come it is not inconceivable that someone will look at him in this photograph and say: "Who's that?"
