Woodman, woodman, spare that tree

A very old song from 1830 revised with great popularity by band leader Phil Harris in 1947.
One of the few advantages of age is recalling delights that gave pleasure in youthful days: 1947 that is, not 1830!

Before you shout: "what are you doing up that tree at your age?" - that's not me.
It's John, who comes every year to 'prune' nature that otherwise might hide the country view.

Comes armed with the tools for the job and means of disposal, which includes Ollie his mate, seen here operating the shredder.

And when he has done, it looks like this - all ready for winter and the promise of next spring.

All apart, that is, from the nobbly tree out front, which is about as mournful a view of approaching winter as you may find.

                                                                            It's different!

P.S. If you remember, you need to click on each picture to see the enlargement. For some reason, the way in which pictures appear when you click to enlarge changed with recent blog postings.
I have now changed the template and made other small adjustments. When you open the blog you will see a red band running across the page, below the heading More-than-somewhat, where you may choose in which format to view the blog:     Classic  Flipcard  Magazine  Mosaic  Sidebar  Snapshot Timeslide.
I prefer Magazine, but whatever your choice, pictures should enlarge in full when clicked.
