If you can read this sign, you will know that to reach here you have travelled 91 miles from Braunston in Northamptonshire - seen below from an earlier posting. But where would you be?

Here at Hanwell locks in West London: Borough of Ealing to be exact, where you might even be lucky enough to bump into Bridget and Jane, friends of the family - at least friends of the individual resting over the sign who it can be recorded managed the 91 miles from Braunston, but via Dorset and a route and method of transport far removed from a narrow boat.

Mention of the family has to be done with care in case you should think from these pictures that some members of it are somewhat dysfunctional.
But, with a mother and father like this, grandmother and grandfather in the case of the pink hatted one, blame cannot be laid entirely on later generations.
We do not know the leopard skin on the right - just put it down to the circles we moved in at the time!
As to my recent reference to the coat I was wearing on top of the Eiffel Tower 13 years ago, Jack acknowledged that it has been an established part of my wardrobe for many years.
The point is of course, why?
Poverty, laziness, comfort, 'they don't make them like that anymore'?
Things are even worse or better than you might think Jack. Here we are when you were about 3. May I draw your attention to the tie, which you can see again in the photo taken today.
The label on the back reads: StMichael - MADE IN UK.

Marks & Spencer made things to last in those days; which is why they had serious sales problems a few years ago. Once you had one of everything there was no need to go shopping again for 20 years - if ever. But at least we were still supporting home industries.
